A Phoenix Rising: Lisette’s Journey of Strength, Survival, and New Beginnings
At The Magic Hour Foundation, we are continually inspired by the incredible resilience of the families we serve. Every story reminds us that even in life's most difficult moments, hope can shine through. Lisette Sanchez's journey is one of those stories.
Several years ago, Lisette was diagnosed with Stage 2 endometrial cancer. Like so many cancer warriors, she faced uncertainty, fear, and countless medical appointments. After undergoing treatment and a hysterectomy, she believed she was moving forward. But cancer had other plans.
In 2023 and 2024, Lisette faced another battle when breast cancer entered her life. What began as a cyst led to a diagnosis that once again turned her world upside down. Through surgeries, treatments, and radiation, she continued fighting with remarkable determination. Today, after years of battling multiple cancer diagnoses, she is finally approaching the end of this chapter and looking toward a future filled with healing and hope.
Throughout her journey, one person remained by her side every step of the way: her daughter.
"My daughter was my rock through it all," Lisette shared. "It wasn't just cancer I was battling. I was also navigating mental health challenges and the realities of being a single mom. It's been a long road."
When Lisette applied for a Magic Hour Foundation session, her vision was clear. She wasn't looking for sympathy. She wasn't looking to focus on what cancer had taken from her. She wanted to celebrate what she had overcome.
"I want to close this chapter," she wrote. "I want a vision of moving forward. I kicked cancer's butt so many times. I'm a warrior, and this time around I want to embrace that. I want to celebrate life, health, and regaining my life."
Her words immediately resonated with us.
The purpose of a Magic Hour session is not simply to create beautiful photographs. It is to preserve strength, resilience, and the moments that remind us how far we've come. For Lisette, this session will symbolize renewal, healing, and the beginning of a new season.
As we prepare to document her story, we are reminded that survivorship is more than a medical milestone. It is the courage to keep moving forward after every setback. It is choosing hope when fear feels overwhelming. It is finding joy again.
Lisette described her vision as a phoenix rising from the ashes—a powerful symbol of transformation and rebirth. We can't think of a more fitting image for someone who has fought so hard and come so far.
We are honored to walk alongside Lisette as she celebrates this incredible milestone and begins the next chapter of her journey.
Because cancer may be part of her story, but it does not define her.
Today, we celebrate a warrior.
